In partnership with The Blue Card, Yad Vashem USA Foundation lead “Sip & Listen,” a first-of-its-kind pop-up series held April 12–14, transformed local cafes into intimate spaces of remembrance in honor of Yom HaShoah, the Jewish day of Holocaust remembrance. For three consecutive days, neighborhood coffee shops across New York City paused their daily rhythm to host something far more enduring: the voices of Holocaust survivors. The initiative brought survivors face to face with New Yorkers for unscripted conversations about survival, resilience and memory.
The three events featured Holocaust survivors Olga Spiegel, who fled with her mother across the border to Italy while her father was taken to a concentration camp, and Adrienne Petrook, a hidden child survivor from Romania, with host of People Jew Wanna Know Podcast Margarita Lyadova moderating on April 12th at Effy’s Café; New York City journalist Skye Ostreicher moderating the April 13th discussion at Caffe Aronne; and Philanthropist and entrepreneur Ari Ackerman moderating the April 14th discussion at Patis Bakery.
